Linux Mint 22 Stable Delayed » Linux Magazine

Thanks to changes made in Ubuntu 24.04, Linux Mint 22 beta was delayed. Although it’s now available to download and install, it’s still a beta release. For those looking to download and install the stable release of Linux Mint’s latest, the wait has been extended. In the most recent Linux Mint blog post, it was announced the team had received 109 bug reports from the beta release with 53 of those still open. Some of those bugs are critical – AppArmor security leading to app crashes, problems with HW acceleration playback libraries, Flakpat/minstall issues, and more. Because so many of those issues are yet to be resolved, the team has stated the stable release will be delayed. The report added that a precise ETA for the stable release was not possible now, but it will become available this month.
For those wishing to test the Linux Mint 22 (“Wilma”) beta, you can download it from one of the many download mirrors. Just remember, there are issues with this beta release that might make it challenging to use. I have tested it and found it to be as rock solid as any Linux Mint release…but I have yet to encounter one of the remaining bugs. To that end, your mileage may vary.
